Regional Centre for Romani Issues

The Regional Centre for Romani Issues is a non-governmental institution based in Prešov, Slovakia which was created in order to represent a major Canadian project concerned with the development of Romani communities in eastern Slovakia. The Centre came into being in 2001 following a formal agreement between The University College of the Cariboo in Kamloops, B.C., and the Prešov Regional Authority. Most of the Centre’s activities are financed by grant no. 3107/Z020176 provided by the Canadian International Development Agency. The Centre is active in these areas:

  • the creation and operation of the Regional Association of Romani Settlements
  • the coordination of activities conducted as part of the Svinia Project
  • the collection of data pertaining to Romani settlements in the Prešov region
  • raising the public awareness of problems affecting rural Roma living in the Prešov region
